In particular a recent governement project focuses on landfills management and deployment around Tucson, to make sure these new junk disposal and treatment facilities do not pollute the environment.
In order to further isolate the landfill and allow access for dumpster rental services, the sealing barrier will be completed by a geomembrane such as a minimum 2 mm thick polyethylene film high density treated against degradation by UV radiation. The laying of this film by adjoining strips as well as the welds at the joints separating the tapes of this film will be made with the greatest care so as not to compromising the long-term absolute watertightness of the geomembrane.
Tucson Waste Management
For better waste management, other synthetic materials such as geotextiles and geocomposites will also be placed between the geomembrane and the clays (lower layer) or draining materials (upper layer). The drainage of liquids in contact with the geomembrane is carried out by means of a network of perforated pipes buried in a layer of draining materials in respecting slopes of 2 to 5%.
These materials are chosen according to their particle size and their non-reactivity, in the presence of leachates mainly (limestone and sulfur materials will, for example, be prohibited). In general, the pipes are of solid type plastic material, inert in the presence of leachate, resistant to a load of more than 30 tons (depending on the height of the waste) and with a diameter of 200 to 250 mm (depending on the estimated flow rates).
They are surrounded gravel forming a draining layer of several tens of centimeters thickness and permeability greater than 10–2 m/s. The assembly is profiled in such a way to direct liquids to the drainage system.
Finally, a last layer of geotextile combined with a layer of draining sand or a geogrid will be placed over the drainage system to prevent clogging, before receiving the waste. Waste management research shows the succession of different layers of materials that make up the layout of the base of the landfill.
It should be noted that some previous developments in Tucson provided for a duplication static drainage-sealing layers in order to control the quality of the upper geomembrane. However, this implementation was gradually abandoned, at least the drainage, given the significant costs, the improvement the quality of the geomembranes and the impossibility of intervening in the event of a problem.
Tucson Dumpster Rentals
There are companies offering Tucson dumpster rentals, recycling and other junk disposal project, and they have been involved with this landfill study, as these dumpsters are the largest contributors to bringing waste materials to the landfill. Indeed renting a dumpster is the preferred solution if you are a local Tucson resident in need of disposing of a large quanity of junk.
A duplication of the membrane with an intermediate layer of dry soil allows however, to reduce or even eliminate the hydraulic loading of the membrane lower. This is the best practice for junk disposal in Arizona.
On the sides of the landfill, when it has a concave zone, the drainage liquids (towards the underground network), and gases, will be ensured by buried drains in gabions of large grain size (about 50 mm) enclosed in large-mesh grids made of chemically inert material in presence of leachate (plastic, etc.).
These gabions of 25 cm minimum thickness are arranged in spikes and over at least 20% of the surface of the embankments, except in the first 5 meters of elevation where they cover the total surface. Before the laying waste, a geotextile and a layer of draining sand are laid out on, and between, these drains.
