Sarah Warn

After Ellen

#7 in LGBT

Description:   Sarah grew in a small town in Washington. She received a B.A. from Wellesley College and a Master's in Theological Studies from Harvard University, and spent several years doing online marketing and business development for large consumer brands before founding AfterEllen.com in April 2002, and then AfterElton.com and FakeGayNews.com a few years later, running them out of her house in Washington State. In 2005, Sarah sold AfterEllen.com to Logo, and now runs it out of New York.

Gaining Momentum for the LGBT Community

May 15, 2009

After Ellen’s Sarah Warn is a champion for the
mainstreaming of LGBT themes in mass media, and she
uses her distinctive voice to draw attention to the
T.V. shows, movies, books and music where they thrive.
Warn covers celebrities and personalities in the LGBT
community, holding them up as examples of intelligence,
humor, talent, creativity, style, courage and audacity.
She occasionally re-publishes tweets from “queer
women and women of interest to queer women,” and the
comments section is a lively forum for comments and
feedback. You don’t have to be into girls to enjoy
her writing.

Engaging, current, and funny

April 27, 2009

Sarah Warn knows her audience and connects well with
them by being engaging and funny but also insightful
and questioning. She has a very strong voice, and you
know where she stands, but she's able to illustrate
where society is backsliding with humor and grace.

Her piece on Twilight vs. Harry Potter was timely and
respectful, and I really enjoyed her discussion on the
lack of LGBT characters on Life, one of my favorite
shows. I hadn't realized the points she discussed, and
I appreciatee that she was able to open my eyes to that
disparity.

Wit and humor fill the page

April 24, 2009

Her gay Amazon Kindle post is hilarious! What wit this
lady has and no wonder she has such a strong following
of the lgbt community. Funny yet political and strong
words.

I am now a fan of Sarah's work. Beyond funny. And
the Lohan post? Loved it!

Although the majority of her work does focus on
connecting with her audience in a laughable way that
also concentrates on queer issues, at the same time she
is politically savvy. She is up on the social justice
scene, supporting gay and lesbian rights. Always a
plus in my book.
