While there, he wrote about two World Series, two Finals Fours, two Bluebonnet Bowls, the Goodwill Games and the Olympic Festival. Blount has earned numerous writing honors, including the Citation for Writing Excellence from Hearst Newspapers and the Excellence in Journalism Award from the Houston Press Club. He is a member of the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association and the former president of the Houston Chapter for the Baseball Writers Association of America. He is an honors graduate of the University of Houston with a bachelor's of art degree in radio/television communications.
