Brian Carney op-ed writings snuggly fit with the
personality of the Wall Street Journal. Of the old news
giants the WSJ has long been the source for those
seeking a balance of current news, business happenings,
and politics. In his writings as a member of the
editorial board, Carney embodies everything I associate
with the Wall Street Journal. I am not sure whether
this is praise or criticism and think it is probably a
little of each. Carney’s writing is solid,
informative, and engaging and he deserves credit for
these attributes. That said, I find his writing to lack
original voice and ultimately be fairly forgettable.
Perhaps it’s the company he keeps, with powerhouses
like Peggy Noonan and William McGurn, Carney’s
reliable yet non-distinct columns often get lost. I
read his writings when I stumble across them but would
probably not make a point to him out.
