My first look at Bianca Raven's blog "Freelance Writing
Income From Home" I was taken back.
Raven was "dissing" her readers, as she tried to set
the record straight about what freelancing is and
isn't.
"Even after all the posts I've written, it still
surprises me how many freelance writers are seeking
that one, single, solitary source of writing work to
get them going," she says in her post entitled
"Creating Your Own Freelance Profits."
"I'm going to put it bluntly: freelancing means
you're self-employed," she continues. "This also means
that if you have ONE lonely source of writing and
something happens to that company - you're out of
business."
Pretty harsh words, but Raven's tough-love approach
is well placed. As more and more blogs pop-up online,
everyone is looking for that fast-buck from their typed
out prose.
Problem is, as Raven rightly points out, there are no
get rich quick schemes online, you have to find many
different places to sell your words -- in different
media.
Raven's blog offers up good old fashioned honesty
about being a freelance writer, and provides some
useful tools to help you get started.
If you don't like tough-love, tough it out, Raven's
blog is a solid resource for those of us who do
freelance, and those of us thinking about freelancing.
