Economics for Students of Economics

May 01, 2009

Mark Perry's writing is smart and relevant. He is good
at what he does which is mainly pulling together and
reposting interesting economics articles and tid-bits.
He posts often and having an undergrad in econ and
masters in finance I adore that just about every post
is supported by a graph of some sort. Perry is a
Professor of economics and his blog is almost
exclusively macro focused. For students of economics
it's great, but if you’re looking for something
beyond the strictly informative, look elsewhere. I
personally, find Carpe Diem a bit dry. I really wish
there was more levity and personality in his posts. As
Greg Mankiw and Tyler Cowen prove, economics can be
both engaging and intellectually rigorous. With the
intelligent analysis Perry demonstrates, injecting a
little personality into his writing would go a long
way.

The Un-Krugman

April 09, 2009

He is conservative like Krugman is liberal, both write
well and for the average reader. But Krugman is much
bigger. Otherwise I like it that Perry's blog has been
hosted by Blogger. Message: anyone can get a blog, why
only Perry? I like that average person appeal.

Perry is one of those professors you are glad they
are blogging. Helps the rest of us with that lifelong
education thing.

Not bad, links to a lot of interesting material

February 12, 2009

Perry seems to mainly focus on macroeonomics. The
majority of his posts are just quotes from other
articles/posts, but he's great at finding interesting
material. Nothing early-shattering here, but
definitely someone who I go out of my way to read every
week or so.
