Seth Godin's Blog

#21 in Marketing and Media

Description:   Godin graduated from Tufts University in 1982 with a degree in computer science and philosophy. Godin earned his MBA in marketing from Stanford Business School. From 1983 to 1986, he worked as a brand manager at Spinnaker Software. Godin combines three elements in his writings. First, the end of the "TV-Industrial complex" means that marketers no longer have the power to command the attention of anyone they choose, whenever they choose. Second, in a marketplace in which consumers have more power, marketers must show more respect; this means no spam, no deceit and a bias for keeping promises. Finally, Godin asserts that the only way to spread the word about an idea is for that idea to earn the buzz by being remarkable. Godin has written 11 books and launched a number of successful websites including Yoyodyne, ChangeThis, and Squidoo (which is one of the 500 most visited websites)

They don't come any better

October 21, 2009

Say what you will about Seth Godin, he knows what he's
talking about. And he knows that he knows. And he knows
that others know, too. This knowledge does not make
cocky in any way, rather it makes Seth one of the
nicest, most genuine marketers around. Seth is a
shining light in the marketing & business world. Anyone
who chooses not to read his blog on a regular basis is
choosing to ignore some of the best advice they'll ever
get, whether it be marketing, business, or just how to
lead a better life.

What's weird is that Seth is mainstream since he's
essentially helped define what mainstream marketing
even is, but in his heart he is a maverick. It would be
strange to see him advertising any of his projects on
print or billboard, though if the opportunity were ripe
I imagine he wouldn't turn it away.

understanding business development, september 2009

September 23, 2009

An overall good post of business development and how
companies fail to be 'flexible'. I do agree that most
'little guys' are making things happen, but it may
depend on where each CEO is taking his/her company.
Overall vision should be considered also. The tactical
tips are practical and easy to follow. Thanks for this
post Seth.
