One of the greatest media cons of modern times.

August 28, 2010

I wonder why Friedman is rated so highly. I mean for a
man who does not know his geography (the world is flat
[sic]), history (the US is an honest broker [wow!]) ,
politics (Corporate America is good for democracy
[really?]), foreign affairs (Israel darling can do no
wrong [kiss, kiss]), or economics (broke homeowners
responsible for recession [sod the buggers]), he seems
to have pulled off one of the greatest cons of modern
times.

Sure, Friedman is a fine writer. But obfuscating the
real issues using sleight-of-the-hand prose does not a
good journalist make.

Fortunately, Friedman is currently sticking to
common-sense positions on climate change. Maybe he's
eying another Pulitzer. Once that happens, see him
change his tune to promote Corporate/Beltway
interests...

Foreign Affairs Journalist on a Global Warming Crusade

April 26, 2009

Thomas Friedman first cut his teeth reporting in the
Middle East. His first book, "From Beirut to
Jerusalem," a collection of of mostly newspaper pieces
he wrote, helped establish him as one of the foremost
commentators on the situation in the Middle East. He
has also written extensively on Globalization,
specifically in his two books "The Lexus and the Olive
Tree" and "The World is Flat."

Recently, however, it seems that the only topic that
Friedman focuses on is climate change and the need for
a "green revolution." I miss the Thomas Friedman that
reported on international affairs. While it's true
that climate change is a world problem, I feel like
Friedman has strayed from the area where he did his
best writing.

The World Is Flat

April 11, 2009

You are more likely to have heard of the book The World
Is Flat than its writer Thomas Friedman. His book is an
important statement on this era of globalization we
live in.

He writes for the New York Times on a regular basis.
He has three Pulitzers under his belt.

One of his recent observations: "the reason we’re
experiencing meltdowns in both the financial system and
the climate system is because we have been mispricing
risk in both arenas."
